Contra + Waltz with band KGB with Richard Powers at Friday Night Waltz Sat Jan 10

Back again! We are having another wonderful evening of great music and dancing at the "Contra+Waltz", this time with a wonderful band from Seattle, KGB.

Our "Contra+Waltz" is an evening filled with many fun wonderful dances- half the dances are contras and line dances, and the rest are waltzes, polkas, one steps. Our special band for the night, KGB from Seattle, composed the music for one of Friday Night Waltz standard dances, our cross step waltz mixer, "A Clocked Stopped". We can't wait to dance to it with live music!

We are planning on having about 10 waltzes, a few of polkas, some latin and tango- all played by KGB. A great band. not to be missed! Listen to their music here.

Our last Contra+Waltz had over 230 dancers-one of the largest contra dances in California over the last few years. People were eager for another dance- here we are with a delightful band that has played superb dance music for nearly two decades. They get to the bay area every five years or so.
This is a must-go dance!

We are delighted to present KGB, a favorite contra band with a loyal and long time following. They will play about half contras and line dances and about half social couple dances with 10 waltzes, several Polkas, and other dances like a tango, Hambo, and Schottische. Not to be missed! KGB has not been in the Bay area for a really long time. KGB is the Seattle-based trio of Julie King, Claude Ginsburg and Dave Bartley, whose surname initials provide the group's name (KGB). They've been playing contradance music since 1993.

Richard Powers will be calling the contras. He started out calling contra many years ago in Cincinatti and is now returning to his roots. Richard will also be teaching two hours of social dances from 7 pm to 9 pm.

7pm class: pivoting schottische

8pm class: Cross step waltz with an introduction to cross step waltz mixer, which will be played live with KGB, who wrote the original music.

Tom Hill teaches his excellent Introductory waltz class from 7 to 9pm.

$20 for the evening. $10 for students with id. No partner necessary. All Ages. Casual comfortable attire. Sorry due to live band, no discount for dance only. Under 18 must be accompanied by parent or guardian.

We will have our traditional celebratory selection of cherry pies, double chocolate devine mousse, raspberry cheesecakes, lemon merengue pies, and a zingy selection of ice creams.

Oakland Veterans Hall 200 Grand Avenue Oakland CA X Harrison.
A beautiful dance hall, with 3,500 square foot hardwood floor, extra room for socializing and meeting new people, easy access, great parking.

Marriage Sign ~ Have you been dating the wrong sign?
Have you been dating the wrong sign?

MARRIAGE SIGN

Your relationship is based on your true natal sky.

MARRIAGE IN SECONDS

My florist predicts marriage while packing flowers for her clients. Thus, her clients get to know when they will be married, within an informal chat. They have no need to go to the astrologer, who would hardly be able of such a feat. How can this be? The florist in question is one of the many people we have met and taught a simple calculus in minutes. They are not astrologers at all, and are therefore able to perform a little calculus, as well as tell the Sun sign for anyone they meet. The florist in question can tell you all the loves in your life, if you stop at her shop for twenty minutes. On several occasions, people like the local butcher, have framed and determined the whole life of a surprised client and astrologer, who got pinned to the point in minutes while the butcher packed the order.

FLORIST ASTROLOGY

Now who is the astrologer, the butcher or his client? Another famous astrology writer received his initiation from a florist, while on holiday. When he asked her if she were an astrologer, she smiled sheepishly, as she has never seen an ephemeris, natal chart or personal computer. She does things by heart. From the heart of the corner florist and into your ears. Anyone can know the year and month, also day and hour of his or her marriage. That is done in seconds as it does not require special astrological knowledge. What we have to present here is an elaborate introduction in elementary astrology, not the one you will find in the newspaper, but real sky astrology, genuine as the flower and fresh bread. In reading forth you will be baking your flowering future. It took twenty minutes to make an astrologer from our florist. It will take twenty minutes to read the following essay. Read it particularly if you are not interested in astrology at all. The less the interest, the greater the knowledge. Read it if you hate astrology. Go forth and read it. It was written on purpose in order to save your children, life, marriage, health and stocks.

TWO SIGNS OF ERROR

Your natal ascendant and Sun position may play tricks on you. Having a false personality bears heavy on one's back. In order to enjoy a healthy living, accurate scanning of the natal planetary positions is paramount. After being told that tropical astrology offers one sign of error, one goes to sidereal or even eastern astrologers, only to be fooled again. The error is not one sign as popular magazines inform, but two signs.

TWO SIGNS SHIFT EXAMPLE

Taking that superstition has been more or less standardized through various programs that calculate planetary positions, we assume that the programs more or less agree on each other, having 12 ascendants and 12 zodiacal positions. It is, however, interesting to compare the results of such programs with the real sky. Here is an example. One our client has been told that she is “Scorpio” with “Capricorn” ascendant. While both constellations are clearly misspelled, one inspects the real sky in order to determine the true positions of the client's natal planets. Capricornus clearly can not rise at east at this epoch, thus one does not need any scan in ordine to determine nonsense. The scan shows Sun in Virgo along with Pisces ascendant. Everybody can perform this experiment, using any astronomic tool. They have been cheating on you all of the time, passing unqualified data under your nose while swindling your karma and daily life with two signs of error. You have been dating the wrong sign. They will tell you that in the west you are this and in the east you are that, but you can easily prove to anyone of them that they are liars who never knew how to determine the position of the natal Sun for themselves.

CAVEAT EMPTOR

Consider making a horoscope for yourself, using any astronomic program or inbuilt planetarium, rather than ruining family life and your child's career with dangerous superstition. Always consult NASA Sun ephemeris. We posted these ephemeris and also published several animated displays of the real skies on http://lulu.com/astrology Mail us at klaudio_zic@yahoo.com and you will receive data directly from the NASA server.

SCORPIUS

Here is a strip of the NASA Sun ephemeris. Sai Baba has been born on November 23rd with Sun in Libra. “Oph” stands for Ophiuchus.

2008-Nov-23 00:00 Lib
2008-Nov-24 00:00 Sco
2008-Nov-25 00:00 Sco
2008-Nov-26 00:00 Sco
2008-Nov-27 00:00 Sco
2008-Nov-28 00:00 Sco
2008-Nov-29 00:00 Sco
2008-Nov-30 00:00 Oph

The Sun spends only a week in Scorpius. Now we were born on Nov 28th. Guess our zodiacal sign?

MEDICAL ASTROLOGY

Whoever wants to have the wrong organ cut may continue to believe in the astrology as presented by popular newspapers. It is greatly assumed that people go to the astrologer for fun, but what if they pay serious attention to advice? They will have the wrong organ cut out on the wrong day and hour in the wrong month or year, where there was no need to cut anything at all, as Neptune was not in that house.
HOUSE OF MARRIAGE

Neptune was not in the other house either. Starting with not knowing where the Sun is, is an excellent introduction in general chaos where madman takes advice and counsel from madman. The poor fellow is tossed forth through Chinese, Mayan, Indian signs and across an array of specialised tarots in order to reach the end of the month penniless and confused. The chief of the London Astrology Lodge emerged from the gypsy's tent confused. Even an excellent astrologer like him could not know it all. At the time there was no zodiac, ascendants were rambling around and planets were tossed at random from house to house. Not one house system was working. Imagine how many cases of divorce issued on account of Neptune in 7th that was in fact in 6th. Latitude was unknown and major errors made in further prediction. Some tarot initiation would help the gypsy, providing that she can set 40 years apart for the first card. Fortunately, the gypsy wrote no books, to our best knowledge, blessed may improvise futurity in Heaven.

DATING

Now when two people meet, errors multiply. When a Scorpio/Capricorn meets a Virgo/Aries, the issue is gloomy, as hopefully not depending on astrology. They will marry anyway. If children are healthy, crops abundant and prosperity widely spread before the couple, initial astrological errors can be discarded with meticulous “even the wrong system works for us” nonchalance.

WHO ARE WE?

We determiend the zodiac and ascendant set. The Academic Zodiac is the great zodiac of our time, the first scientific zodiac that we ever had. Apart from the 22 zodiacal stations, a second set of precessed ascendants guards the angel guardian at east from superstition and false astrology. Your true personality is based on your true natal sky. The implications of zodiacal reformation as we approach year 2012 are vast as concern its application in masonic ritual, national heraldry and holy architecture. To begin with, UNICEF will help every child to true natal skies for everyone. After more than 5000 years, we have finally taken off the chains that bounded us to false identities as spelled by false ascendants, sun signs and impossible planetary positions. Zodiacal reformation is art of the planetary exorcism as speeding evolution towards Mayan 2011 or 2012.

FORBIDDEN SCIENCE

The LORD forbade Chaldean calculus for several obvious reasons. This ancient superstition was inaccurate. The Chaldean ascendant was fixed to an unmoving sky, lacking precession. Some of the ancients believed in unmoving skies with 12 fixed ascendants. If that would be so, we would never have precession. False ego is from the devil, as prone to every kind of superstition, like the 12 ascendants, a popular nonsense in which many believe to this day. The victims of misinterpretation can blame authors like Ptolemy but no blame can be attached to immaculate Hipparchus. Hipparchus strongly rebuked the “astrologers” of his time, who stole into the marketplace armed with a sheet of outdated knowledge. In order to cheat on their customers, “astrologers” invented a nonsensical string of apparently learned expressions, by which they were hiding a simple truth: they were never able to determine the position of their own natal Sun.

DETERMINING THE ZODIAC

In order to discreate false ego, we inspected the zodiac and ascendant set for different epochs. The scan was done in twenty minutes with primitive tools. In these twenty minutes, the zodiac was determined. The set of ascendants took less than five minutes to determine. Moses was an Egyptian initiate who knew how to count the constellations. He no doubt inspected the Orion cycle as main nether ascendant in ancient Egypt. The zodiac has 22 constellations, while the eastern ascendants for the current epoch are only 16 in number. The Hebrew alphabet is thus compatible with the zodiac, much as popular Tarot games fall in the category of 22. A separate set, a sort of Minor Arcana, was devised to serve as ascendant set. This set has a total of 88 cards, but in various epochs it served as partial set of e.g. 16 or 36 cards. The court cards of the Tarot may thus represent the set of ascendants for the current epoch. Thoth gave us only three Tarot initiations, and for good reasons, while the 4th and 5th are still being written. Previous epochs, when the Art flourished, had towards two dozen ascending constellations at due east. It is in one of these epochs that we established our intent, interest and basis for Egyptian initiation.

NO MORE HEROES ANY MORE

Newspapers dedicated to superstition will quote each other on the so-called vernal point in Aries, where the Sun is imagined as rising in Aries at spring equinox. At this epoch, Aries does not rise at east, at all. Having “Aries ascending” in one's horoscope is pure fancy. Aries did ascend, through, at the time of King Arthur, when men were brave and castles rammed, in order to free the lovely lady and true mind from the dragon and local tyrant, false ego. Knights born with Crater ascending would join the Holy Grail pursuit.

THE AGE CETUS

The Sun not only does not rise at east in Aries for spring equinox, but it can be argued whether it rises in Pisces at all. There is a thin line between Cetus and Pisces as determined by the IAU standards, with little stars and proofs as to the real constellation the Sun is in. Cetus has three zodiacal sections through which e.g. The Moon is driven on its serpentine way towards Aries, where Pluto sinks into Cetus and towards Eridanus or where Earth co-orbitals and Eris meet. Pluto can have a conjunction with Eris in Cetus. One of the main occasions in which astronomers surely had a hearty laughter was when someone proclaimed a kind of “rulership of Pluto in Aries”. Greenwich must have roared with laughter when some “astrological lodge” in the neighborhood proclaimed “Pluto rising in Aries”. The poor astrologers or whatever they were never knew that Pluto never enters Aries. The asinine astrologers of our time will surely have Eris in Taurus, another impossible position. One must pardon people for not knowing how to calculate the position of their natal sun or lacking money for a ticket to Greenwich. After all, we are all only human, prone to make mistakes. Pluto sinks into Cetus from Aquarius, heading towards Eridanus. Pluto never entered Pisces or Aries and never will. Already this reliable astronomic fact is enough to debunk “astrology” as dangerous superstition for the masses. A clever child will come to the same conclusion, and disallow any influence from authoritative superstition. And if it is hell to go through, let him head the words of Sir Winston Leonard Spenser Churchill: “If it is hell you are going through, keep going.”

PLANETARY EXORCISM

In order to ram one's mind into focus, one either stops thinking, like fishermen often do, or concentrates, like Bobby Fisher often did. Whatever “method” is valid as psyche falls off in order for true mind to emerge victorious. All superstition is based on psyche roaming the psyche. The psyche can not analyse itself, as it was exclusively forced unto one in order to enslave one. Only the hero can free Andromeda from chains and Cetus below, false ego. The superhero in Aries checks Cetus as Lamb of God. All fairy tales and myths are centered upon the simple fact that Adam is enslaved and liberation hard to achieve against a strong, unknown and slippery enemy, the devil. Freud called it psyche.

CATALOG OF ERRORS

It would take folio volumes to produce an entertaining reading for astrology lovers, in which all the facets of this superstition are ridiculed as faced with scientific facts. We love astrology and pardon its mistales, but to some extent we feel asinine in following just every bit of nonsense that brave men added to this fascinating field of human knowledge over the eons. How can one prove a rainy day to a believer who soaks wet but believes that it is sunny? False ego is not even dealt with, it is discarded. We never analysed all the facets of superstitious astrology, as we clearly determined the zodiac, in order to have a reliable scientific field in which to work with accuracy.

As nobody cares for accuracy in superstition, the muddy waters are being muddled even more, thus soon we shall have Spica Virginis entering “Scorpio”, while this star has spent ages in Libra, as afforded to her by the fancy of asinine astrologers, who slam planets here and there according to their bizarre fancy.
Spica Virginis gives the magic flavor to one of the longest zodiacal stations, Virgo. Where else would Spica Virginis be as main star of Virgo constellation? It is obviously in Virgo. Astronomers do not shift this star anywhere else. Why should they? They are dealing with the real sky and are surely not bent to cheat on us. Precisely because of their honesty, they are shunned by “astrologers”.
The zodiacal error as presented to the masses is not only two signs or two constellations. Two signs of error are just the beginning of a long series of errors that we can not possibly enumerate in our lifetime and beyond. From a couple of basic errors, all other errors stem in succession. The most serious error was that we never had a zodiac. Nobody cared to scan the zodiac. Astronomers apparently never needed one, as they remain disinterested in zodiacal or ascendental classifications, quite obsolete in modern astronomy. Astrology was a funny pastime as based on coffe table belief in 12 rising signs that serve as zodiacal constellations or signs. Since astrology never entered the field of science, any superstition served fairly well for entertainment purpose. If there was a time when astrology was taken seriously, we must look towards the first examples of Egyptian synastry. That has been done and reestablished in a refreshed initiate system, as included in the RTRRT or Real Time Reality Rendering Tools, a historical name for a set of instant magick techniques. Exorcism can start with consulting the NASA ephemeris for the Sun. One will find that e.g. the Sun is in Libra on November 23rd, Sai Baba's birthday.
The ascendant is determined by the eastern star, or guardian angel. At the present epoch no one can have “Capricorn”, “Scorpio” or Aries ascendant.
If “Capricorn” is determined by one of the many quack programs in use, then it is probably Pisces rising at east. Whoever feared one's own “Capricorn” ascendant may relax, as Capricornus, the proper spelling, does not rise at east at this epoch.
If they have told you that you are “Scorpio”, relax, because you may be Virgo.
Orbs were invented to make up for the enormous amount of error. Orbs have no place in astrology. The event happens to the second it was predicted. The orb of influence of a planet is pure fancy.
Aspects between projections are replaced with angular aspects in the real sky.
An unsurmountable deal of asinine literature proposes the most unbelievable aspects that include 11 or 111 degrees. In a horoscope where everything is misplaced by miles, the refined charlatans inspected stuff like an 18 degree aspect. With quarter of sky of error for planetary position, they played the minute scientist. This is typical of the psyche, which distracts from the quintessential while driving people mad with petty nonsense. You will find examples of people driving mad other people with nonsense in your suburb, neighborhood and TV.
There is no such thing as Mars opposing Pluto. True, sometimes aspects come close to 180 degrees, but occasions are rare. If we come to 177 degrees of angular aspect, take five while remembering that 3 degrees is 3 years of error in direction.
The natal horoscope does not determine the events. The directions determine the event. Thus for Carl Gustav Jung, the secondary angular direction of Moon in Cetus determined his childhood.
Alice has been born on Aug 4th 2004 with Moon rising in Cetus, Mercury in Sextans and Venus in Orion at the Stargate. She has Juno in Scutum and Pluto in Serpens Cauda, the ascendant of the U.S.A. This diligent little girl is vital for the future of her nation, but her parents did not know it before the astral scan has been made for the child.
Official Guide to Critically Single! Burning Man 2007

Hello all, and welcome to the final draft of the "Critically Single" event info as it will be seen in the "What, Where, When."

The guide and rules are posted below the What, Where, When entry.

Critically Single : Speed Dating On Wheels! Detail
Description: Nothing is sadder than a tandem bicycle with one rider or a solitary bike crossing the playa. Join our Critical Mass inspired, speed dating/ art tour starting from Snowflake Village (the speed dating experts!) Get to know each other as we ride between installations, enjoy them together, switch partners, and ride to the next. If we have any stragglers after the event, we will bar crawl, on bikes, in mass, until you are no longer single, or until I pass out drunk and crash!
Date: Wednesday, August 29, 2007
Time: 6:00pm-8:00pm
Duration: 120 minutes
Category:	Parades
Eco/Green Event?:	Yes
Hosted by/Camp Name:	Snowflake Village

Here is the scoop on how Critically Single will be run:

* As fast as people come in on their bikes, you will be assembled into teams of 8, four M and four F.
* You will then be sent out to tour 3 nearby Playa art installations
* You will talk to a different person on each leg of the journey
* You will impress each other with your enlightened perspective on the art pieces (you lucky people on the way back will get to talk about your favorites, instead!)
* By the time you get back 20 minutes later, each F has chatted up each M and vice versa.

*** Then you play the game! ***
Secret voting on a gameboard; the Red Pin of Passion for the one you are super hot for, and the White Pin of " sure... I'd date them". You can play both pins, one pin, or no pins.

We match people who choose each other. Winners get a prize packet and a blessing from the Snowflake Scepter on their union, whether it lasts a minute, a month, or a lifetime.

If you do not succeed the first time, try again! If you do not succeed during the speed dating, we'll launch, in mass, to find alcohol, mixing and mingling all the way. Remember, everyone riding with us is looking! So don't be shy! You are around kindred spirits who are just as crazy as you! ;-)

We may need volunteers to help for an hour each (two half hour shifts.) Volunteer benefits are:
* Exposure to the opposite gender. You will be helping the opposite gender, which will assure that you get seen by EVERY hopeful.
* After your half hour shift, you will get front of line treatment!
* You will get "I helped Critically Single" swag, thus increasing your hotness by an order of magnitude.
* If you do not get hooked, during the Critically Single Bar Crawl, we WILL pimp you.

See you on the playa!

Seeking advice: Where does a nice 50 year old guy go to meet women? Where do those women go to meet guys?

Here's the deal. I'm a decent 51 year old guy, recently single, interested in the usual array of art and creative things, comfortable with kink and sex of all genders and various forms of open relationships but don't require any or all of those.

Where do women go to find someone like me? The bars here in San Francisco seem to be mostly the (much) younger set. Most of the events I've seen posted on these tribes are also aimed at the younger set. For that matter, most of the tribes related to dating or any forms of sex and relationships are also aimed at the younger set.

Say you are a 40-55 year old woman, perhaps you've been married once or twice, perhaps you have grown up kids. You're pretty happy with your life but would like some male companionship. You might be looking for casual sex, you might be looking for a casual sexual relationship that might include doing other things together, like socializing with your friends and his. you're open to something that might become longer term, but you're not looking exclusively for a long term relationship. You're certainly not looking to get married again.

Where would you go, either in the physical world or online, to find that?

What was the most romantic date you went on in the Bay Area? My most romantic was a trip on the bay with my then-girlfriend. We cruised on the bay for hours, and ended it with a full-course dinner at Scoma's. It was wonderful!

Have a bike for two (or more) but no one with which to share it?

Well, I'll be at Burning Man trying to change that! This year at the man, I am promoting an event called "Critically Single"; Critical Mass meets speed dating!

Bring a tandem, bring a friend! (preferably to match your persuasion to TRY and keep things balanced.) We'll pool all our mass together and using a very scientific process (still under works in our "Critically Single" testing facility) we will pair people up for short dates! As people find pairings, just like critical mass, we will dwindle down to a critical few. When we get sufficiently small, we'll go find bars on the Playa and get critically drunk, and be each other's wingpersons as we try and get our last remaining massers hooked up.

Join the tribe and lets talk details.
http://tribes.tribe.net/criticallysingle

Interested parties who can help contribute, please join! I need some help brainstorming the idea and I definitely don't want to horde this idea for myself.

What really sucks about dating/socializing in this area

I'm a geeky queer Jew. I live in the hellhole that is known as East Contra Costa. What this means is, if I want to actually date anyone, I have to travel west to do it.

I pretty exclusively do long-distance dating until I am able to move in about a year, because I don't fit in where I live, and compatible partners generally live out of town.

What sucks about dating anyone from the Bay Area -

It's sucked equally with men and women. They expect me to do all the travelling. Nobody seems to ever want to trade off. Even people who live in Concord (twenty minutes away from me) expect me to do all the travelling.

People who are in their 30s and are still into cliques. They've all got their exclusive little groups and if you're not part of their group, forget it.

People who think it's "long distance" if they're in San Francisco and date someone in Alameda. (I used to live in Alameda)

Sheesh.

If I met someone who lived in SF who'd actually share the travel, I'd go for it. But until then...

From time to time I have met individuals with whom I connect immediately, recognize, feel I know, before actually knowing them. Their personality, physicality, interests, and quirks are familiar to me. I want that again. Not a carbon copy, but a match. There is a seduction to unfamiliar familiarity and I -want- it. Truly I crave it.

I want someone who can hold their own in conversation, opinion, reflection, pontification, and self-assuredness. I want someone who stands on their own two feet, yet will appreciate my walking along side from time to time. I want someone who knows that appreciation, admiration, and trust does not mean a high, precarious pedistal from which it is easy fall, plummeting to the earth so far below. I want someone who won't place their delicate 'self-worth' in my hands and make me solely responsible. Rather understands that we can be vulnerable together and still human.

I want someone who loves to kiss, caress, and cuddle. I want someone who isn't afraid to look me in the eyes in the throes of passion. I want someone who knows just how to raise the hairs on the nape of my neck by not more than the subtle caress of breath in just the right place. I want someone who isn't afraid of my romantic overtures, sees them as a gift, not a business deal.

You may have noticed that I avoid the list of material things and attributes pandemic in personal ads. There are too many combinations of such things that I find appealing. Even my want for instant familiarity is more fanciful than necessary. Sometimes the growth of familiarity is seductive.

I may want too much. I may discourage that someone who is all of these things but, like so many of us, suffers from self-doubt. Public overtures in virtual communities are not for the faint of heart to be sure. It is quite likely that I myself would be hard pressed to answer this post. Don't shy away. The fact of the matter is, it might be possible that the impossible someone is you.

This is the history and the making, sometimes sh!t happens along the way. This is where some of the problems go to the works. The same person who created the problem can not solve the problem something Albert Einstein once said. Well here's a piece of the puzzle less

I’ve been to all the big dating sites and I’m tired of searching through a bunch of fake profiles trying to find that 1 real person so I decided to start my own website. At the moment it’s not very useful because it’s new and I don’t have any members. That’s where you come in. I really need people to test the site and let me know what you think. What do you want to see? What don’t you want to see? What do you like? What don’t you like? I need your feedback. Thanks in advance!

Ladies- time to bust out your "inner showgirl" and guys-your Rico Suave, because you won't want to miss HABANA COPACABANA!

We'll be ringing in 2006 at Habana Restaurant, 2080 Van Ness Ave. at Pacific in Pac. Heights. You'll definitely want to join us for a “fiesta fantastica” on New Year's Eve because we were able to negotiate a FANTASTIC deal that you won't believe:

$25 for two drinks of your choice, appetizers, dessert buffet and a glass of champagne @ midnight. Muy fabuloso!!!

Party begins at 10:00pm and goes until ~1:30am.

Pre-payment of $25 by PayPal required via the following link: www.evite.com/respond/payGuestSplash

Guest list strictly enforced! This event will likely sell out, so register today.

The fiesta fantastica is also a fun-raiser fundraiser. A portion of all ticket proceeds will go to benefit Kashmir Earthquake Relief (KER), a USA-based volunteer collective effort to help the victims of the October 8, 2005 earthquake in Kashmir rapidly rebuild their lives and communities. To learn more, please click on www.kashmirrelief.org/

Music and passion will be THE fashion at Habana Copacabana, so costumes or colorful cocktail attire--festive with a flair!

We look forward to saying "Bienvenido a Habana" & celebrating a FELIZ AÑO NUEVO 2006 with you.

This thread is more of a self-promotion than anything else. :) I'm just letting folks know that I have a new profile on Match.com. Do you use the site? Have you had a long-term success? Anyway, my Match username is expandingcircles.

I've never used Tribe to meet people, but I've found it to be a great source of information. Here's to trying something new!

What's a great classic date?
"Dinner and a show"
Nowadays, people think of movies, but there's always independent theatre!

Yep, it's a plug for the show I'm producing, and it opens Thursday night!

Cassandra's Call Productions presents:
MANUMISSION
by Nebula Award winner, Martha Soukup
directed by Dylan Russell

This smart, sharp comedy tells the story of a man so fed up by the way the world is run "for his benefit" that he decides he wants out... literally. When Douglas petitions to divorce himself from the human race, he finds that not being a human being may be more than he bargained for.

Featuring:
Arwen Anderson*, David Austin-Groen*, Kate Austin-Groen, Christopher DeJong, Paul Silverman*, and Trish Tillman

Thurs-Sat nights
Oct 6-29
Exit Theatre
156 Eddy St, San Francisco
7:30 pre-show concerts (this week, featuring Rachel Efron!)
8:00 show
Tickets are $20

SPECIAL OFFER
Opening weekend, bring a copy of this posting and get $5 off!
Reservations by calling 510-645-1223 or info@cassandrascall.com

All I can say is that I'm totally attracted to the surfers/athletic types. The surfers becuz I am a surfer and just seeing guys being all wet from the waves they just rode in to the beach...thats just sizzlin hot. I guess another plus to my attraction is firemen. I love firefighters and to this day I swear that I was a firefighter in a previous life becuz I can't get enough of the firemen I meet today. They're major hotties when they got the bod to show it...yummm! ;-p

There any surfers or firefighters out there???? Just curious becuz I could probably eat you up. Lets make a date...

I recently join the tribe net and have just found the singles section. I am an armature photography working with models to create interesting and unique photos. I originally joined to meet models so my photos are of the models I have worked with.

I am interested in finding a woman that is open minded enough that I may continue this work. Her age is not as important as the ability to find each other interesting.

I have never been married and have no children. I enjoy many different things not yet listed in my profile.

TruFina = TruFluff and Worse - save your identity

TruFina = True Fluff, and Worse
If true love can be bought through a weak identity scam, it's no surprise that anyone would sell themselves out as the romance shill.

There’s been a recent craze of establishing and asserting a verified identification as a badge of honor to display through the course of on-line dating. The concept is ripe with good intentions – either to make money, or provide tacit assurance to prosepct dates and mates that the person behind the flirtations is real – but there could be unwanted con-sequences long-term.

At least in the case of TruFina.com, anyone who knows anything about me, has rifled my trash can, or lived with me, can obtain and claim a TruFina identity as if they were me, associated with any email address they choose. Just how many 'me' are there out there, could there be, and who cares?

Obviously the folks at TruFina.com knows little or nothing about identity verification, identity theft, fraud, nor on-line dating, yet they claim, as other such services do, that you will gain some advantage that will ultimately protect you, me, or a prospective mate, from dealing with the wrong people. Such services assume that we’ll trust them and the sources of their data, to be reliable, accurate and looking after our best interests.

Unfortunately these services lure people into a false sense of trust, validation, verification and protected identity - all through a weak one-sided "give me your information, I'll make sure who you are and certify that claim."

Aside from possibly storing your personal data for untold future purposes, they are doing nothing more than a cursory lookup of readily available information from the likes of a Equifax or ChoicePoint - data brokers and information banks. They buy and collect information from various sources and re-sell it in many different forms – you may be familiar with them if you’ve had a pre-employment background check run on you – your employer must tell you and the company must share with you what they provided. We have no prior or accurate knowledge of or control over the source or validity of the information they have. Given that ChoicePoint's database was recently compromised, we should have no trust that they aren't storing and distributing false information about anyone.

None of what TruFina or any of the other identity certification services offer could have prevented the financial loss the group of initial developers suffered through the unscrupulous practices of TruFina's founders. They new without question the identity of the people that became TruFina and made hollow promises and left invoices unpaid. If you want trust, security, comfort, peace, love and eternal happiness, TruFina is not the place to go nor trust for it. But wait, there's more...

We are seeing more and more issues and layers of 'trust' thrust before us, based on no more than one web-front operation buying data from another web-front operation that collects unqualified, unverified data from several other unknown sources. We jump into a tangled web woven by others unknown and consider it 'trust' because they have a trustworthy-looking web site, an official looking certification logo, and offer a lot of fancy words about privacy.

Information brokers such as ChoicePoint are under no legal or recognized ethical scrutiny to ensure the data they acquire and distribute is accurate, much less if it can be compromised or if some of the records are totally false. Further, in the case of many such operations, the pro-grams are written off-shore in places that have no ethics much less agreements about what happens to the data they handle - your data - which may be in China, Hong Kong, India, Egypt, Russia... Do you know where your data is and who's playing with it?

What does this this type of asserted and assumed 'trust' do for an on-line dater? That depends on other dater's requirements for 'trust', which has less to do with your Social Security number, who previously used your present address, and whether or not you got a speeding ticket last month than it does with how you behave and others perceive you in specific contexts - that and silly human emotion, neither of which can be applied for and certified by an on-line database derieved from an-other on-line database derived from... an endless stream of unqualified, unmanageable data sources.

Of all the friends and associates I've discussed on-line dating reality with, and those I have 'met' on-line in the course of research, the type of assurances they rely on, and what would improve the quality of their on-line dating quests leading to dates in real-life, an identity check was not high on the list.

Interestingly enough - not one of them has ever asked a real-life date to see a driver's license, Social Security card, and a list of past occupants of their current home - before the first date or after the wedding - whether they became acquainted on-line or at the local coffee shop.

Their criteria? Chemistry. Behavior. Communication. Circumstances. Experience. Intuition. Reality. But not ID cards and certifications!

The significance, or insignificance of this 'identity' dilemma must not be lost on anyone either observing or patronizing it. This is a simple attempt to make money preying on and playing with the hearts, souls, hormones, emotions and pocketbooks of over 40 million generally nice, well-meaning people who turn to the likes of Match.com, Yahoo! Personals and such instead of the local bar scene for companionship.

The data they are 'selling' has little or no true financial value except what someone is willing to pay to dig it up and report it, but it is invaluable to those of us who the data is about. Aside from the Internet connections and servers and programming that mangle the data, the cost of goods sold in this business is essentially ZERO, the value is in how it's processed.

The only people achieving enriched-lives through these services are the few people of TruFina, and the dating sites they buddy-up with to resell your information packaged as a 'certification'. You can expect it to cost between $3 and $10 per month to have the likes of ChoicePoint and TruFina muck around with the data elements of your life and resell them as more than they are. They profit from your existance - an existance, as stated above - that almost anyone who knows enough about you can mimic and assert as their own.

Yes, with enough easy guesses, someone could play with services like TruFina through trial-and-error to determine enough correct answers about your life to become you - not only on TruFina and dozens of dat-ing sites, but carry that information into TSA ID systems and become you, ready to fly without the scrutiny of secondary screening to see if you've got stick matches in your socks.

The more these trivial, unregulated players in the identity and trust business put weak systems out there, the LESS SECURE Americans will be in the long run, and I'm not sure they will prevent as many priceless broken hearts as they will take your money. The likes of TruFina are not only Truly False, Truly Farce, they are Truly Frightening.

I just started a new tribe that focuses on finding people who have compatible signs and using it for dating purposes. It can also be a site for people to ask general and specific questions. Hopefully, it won't be to nichee. The site needs a few people for it to be made public so if interested, please try to find it and join or let me know. Thanks.

Personality Compatibility Singles Mixers

Would you or anyone you know be interested in going to my singles mixer at Union Cattle in Hermosa Beach, CA on March 16 or Laugh Loung in New York City, NY on April 19.

Everyone at the mixer will have a small personality compatibility gadget. Throughout the night they will zap each others personality to each other and the gadget analyzes how compatible they are to one another.

Most of the guests at the mixers are between ages 28 to 44.

Also, I will be hosting other mixers in San Francisco, CA in May. Do you know anyone who would like to go to those too?

Please tell your friends to go to www.OneKeyAway.com

Thanks
Edwin

Hi all,
Just joined this tribe to see what's going on on this alt.match.com. So now what do I do? Are there rules to this? Do I wait til someone replies to my posting, or what? Someone throw me a friggin' bone here.
I guess that's why this is a freebie. Well, if any woman is interested, check out my profile and maybe we can go from there.
Take care.

Hi I am CJ. Just writing this makes me feel like I am at some AA meeting waiting for the whole room to say "Hi CJ" .Yes I am new to tribe. I have had my account since March and well I have never used it. Strange that. SO I am here to pretty much make friends. Maybe more. Who knows. But I spend my time with my daughter and dancing and going back to school in the Winter. I am 23 and pretty much a very independant person. I enjoy cooking, writing, reading, I am a laurell k hamilton Fan. I am a gaming geeky girl. I go to baycon and slug a thon. I love anime and I am pretty out going. SO feel free to add me to your network because I don't bite ,... well at least too hard. ;)

Ideas, concepts, suggestions, just general brainstorming!

Ok, since we're here to talk about dating in the Bay Area, let's talk about places go to, things to do, and whatnot!

I live out in the Tri-Valley area, I affectionately call it the Midwest to my friends near the water. However when I meet someone and want to go out on a date and whatnot, I'm at a loss for ideas initially. I would suggest we focus on things to do which don't reqire huge amounts of cash but maximize adventure and whatnot.

One idea I've though of is hiking around Black Diamond Mines. They are located up near Clayton and is an old mining area around Mt. Diablo.

What does everyone else think of for ideas?

In many ways the German electronic band Kraftwerke has been way ahead of their time. Here are the words to their 1981 song called "Computer Love" which feels like it was written for me tonight in regards to internet dating:

computer love, computer love
computer love, computer love
computer love, computer love

another lonely night, another lonely night
stare at the tv screen, the tv screen
i don't know what to do, don't what to do
i need a rendezvous, need a rendezvous

computer love
computer love
computer love
computer love

i call this number, i call this number
for another date, for another date
i don't know what to do, i don't know what to do
i need a rendezvous, i need a rendezvous

computer love

WHAT I HATE ABOUT ONLINE DATING!

WHAT I HATE ABOUT ONLINE DATING!...
(taken from SF Dating tribe post I made, but feel it belongs here as well. Feel free to tack more pet peeves on if you like. Cheers.)

THE TEN THINGS I HATE ABOUT YOU...
(taken from my tribe site post, but was stated for almost all sites we are on).

1.) The way they say in order for you to get to know them is to AIM up and say hello (which is fine by me). But when you do they log off.

2.) The way you could write them forever and make it feel like your time and effort was put into a message for them...only to have them respond to your note with a 3-10 letter sentence, as if they never wrote anything more than a haiku.

3.) The way their pets, painting, film and other bullshit photos exceed their own personal shots of themselves. I'm not a shallow guy, one who bases his girlfriend on looks...but come on, for Christ's sake! I like I give a flying fuck about Dalai landscapes. I want to see what your about...that usually doesn't include 30 pics of garbage. Yeah, I have a few up myself, but they don't overpower photos of me...the thing people click on to see in the first place. And NO, it isn't vain, it's just logical.

4.) Hey I have no problem of you asking me what my sign is, I do the same. I happen to enjoy various forms of metaphysics, astrology, parapsychology and religion. I love talking about those things, I'm Ordained myself. But (NOT TO SOUND LIKE A RASCIST) why is it, that almost all Jewish girls on these sites only want to meet Jewish boys? If I said that I only wanted to meet a naughty, black-haired Catholic girl, all of a sudden, I'd be a close-minded asshole. Hey, I'm glad you wanna please your grandparents and all, but this isn't 1759. Haven't you seen American Wedding yet? We can put those differences aside now. I far as I remember, we still worship the same God. And the way the world is going right now, I really don't think he would give a fuck anyway.

5.) When they say in their profile to "Write me! I'll talk to ANYBODY!"....except when YOU write. Yes sir, they have you figured out from the get-go, don't they. Nope, can't talk to you...you're just a psycho asshole junkie stalker...which brings me to my next subject...

6.) The way almost 90% of the girls in the Bay Area think you're a STALKER! Did I fucking miss something? When was being a stalker the 'in thing'? Is this like the latest fucking fad for men or what? How does stalking work? Is it like a union? Do I get good benefits? What's the retirement pay like? Hey ladies...bare with me, ok...I'm with you on the men being asshole thing. Yes, we are! We're jerks, jocks, dicks, morons, idiots, dweebs, fuckheads, pukes, macho-prick butt-munches. Ok, does that fit our profile nicely? Good, However, as insane and chaotic as San Francisco might be, not all of us are stalker, rapist, junkies, pedophiles, serial killers or raving lunatics. Mind you, if Bush gets re-elected next year, I feel that's what most of us WILL become, but for now you're safe. And not all of us think of sex 24/7 either. Just because we're interested in meeting you for a drink, doesn't mean we want to drag you down into a hidden alley afterwards and start banging away relentlessly with unwanted sexual intercourse on your behalf. Trust me, we're not that desperate. Well, maybe some of us are...but I honestly believe that's about 4% of the men population here. So, if you're that sketchy about dating because of that small percent, please...get the fuck off this tribe site and date a rubber blow up doll. I hear they're usually cheaper than the real thing and less messy too.

7.) DISTANCE! I'm flattered when a girl writes me up and says I seem pretty interesting or, as rare as this one is, even good looking! That one takes me by surprise and as much as I'm not one for comments about me (cause I have no self-confidence what so ever) I accept what they say with thanks. Problem is...they're in fucking Idaho! Or Maine! Or Poland! Or Bum Fuck Egypt a ways away from here. So, my question is...what's the point? Why write me? Don't! Stop! Quit now! Especially if I think you’re hot in return! That just brings me down even more! A girl who finds me attractive and lives eons away! Great! Boy, my life is so much better now! Thanks! Oh, look...a revolver!

8.) Vegetarian/Vegan!...Maybe it's cause I'm from Wisconsin and the Chicago area, but, HOLY SHIT! Is there any girl in the entire state of California who isn't into rabbit food? Is there any way I could take one of you out for a good old fashion Porterhouse Steak and Stout Beer? I understand it's good to eat healthy and shit, I do too sometimes. But every now and then that little demon inside me says "Gimme some of that fun filled seasoned flesh or I'm gonna shrink your stomach into a dried up carcass the size of a walnut!" And, of course, I abide. So please, if there is any girl out there who I can share this wonderful vice with, please let me know.

9.) BETTIE PAGE....or BETTY PAIGE (however you want to spell her name, cause oddly, she used both...don't ask me why). I LOOOOOOOVE Bettie! I love her to death, ok? So do some girls, it seems...cause I must have bumped into Bettie 67 times already. Too many Bettie's out there today! Tooooo frigid many! Stop! No more! How would you like it, ladies, if every guy started to dress like Elvis? Or Morrissey? Get a little old, wouldn't it? You'd start to toss out your records after a while, wouldn't you?

10.) I feel this last one goes beyond online and is an all around dating per-peeve of mine, but here it is: BOY TOYS & FUCK BUDDIES...get over it! Does it look like I stick batteries up my ass? Do I have an air hole for you to blow me up with? Do I vibrate compulsively? I'm here to date cause I just might so happen to feel that you're beyond such things. Is this still high school where we're experiencing these things for the first time? Are we that immature? I just so happen to believe in commitment, something that (oddly) scares the shit out of most of the women I have met here so far. Funny, how back in the 50's women wanted to settle down, have kids, a dog in the front yard and 3.5 cars, while the men were running off, fucking around. Now, it's a total polarity. It's almost impossible to find a girl who actually cares about such morals anymore. Seems in order to love someone, these days, you have to fuck them first. Pretty sad. So, just to let you know, you probably won't get much out of me the first night together. I find sex a little more sacred than that. Cope...

I would like to announce and proclaim to the general world the following

Resolved, I will no longer stand in the middle of the emotional freeway and let the same person run me over again and again. Nor will I find similar persons to run me over. I will find some nice sane women who will stand by the road with me and watch other fools get run over till they figure out that if you stand in front of the oncoming traffic you will get hit. Further more that it keeps hurting each time.

that SF people never want to go across the bay let alone know anything about the east bay? You have no idea how many times I've had to explain where Alameda was...shit people don't know even know that there's a giant county named after it? San Francisco people can be very insulated and yet many of them will tell you they like to travel etc...dating someone in Oakland does not qualify as a long-distance relationship! Okay, I'm done ranting now :D

Perhaps we'll have an East Bay focus, and tell frightening pick up stories about The Hut and McNally's?
